Many of the things we witness today are mentioned in the Holy Quran and Hadith. Scholars of hadith have researched the vast collections of ahadith which mention events that will happen near the End of times and have informed us of their context. As we know people have now abandoned camels and other animals for travelling and the prophecy of the invention and the emergence of new transport systems is ongoing as we witness new and faster modes of transportation emerging. A few traditions which could be a reference to modern modes of transport are mentioned below:
Almighty Allah revealed in the Holy Qur’an:
وَّ الۡخَیۡلَ وَ الۡبِغَالَ وَ الۡحَمِیۡرَ لِتَرۡکَبُوۡہَا وَ زِیۡنَۃً ؕ وَ یَخۡلُقُ مَا لَا تَعۡلَمُوۡنَ ﴿۸
And (He is the One Who has created) horses, mules and donkeys so that you may ride them, and that they may serve as means of adornment (for you) as well, and He will (further) create (such ornamented means of conveyance) that you do not know (today).►(Surah an-Nahl, 16 : 8)
The following tradition hints at the vastness and comprehensive nature of knowledge conveyed to the companions by Holy Prophetﷺ.
عن عمر قال قام فينا النبيﷺ مقاما فاخبرنا عن بدء الخلق حتى دخل اهل الجنة منازلهم و اهل النار منازلهم حفظ
ذالك من حفظه و نسیه من نسیه
Hadrat Umar(RA) says that “One day the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) sat with us and he told us everything from the creation of the universe to the inmates of Paradise entering Paradise and the inmates of Hell entering Hell on the Day of Judgement. So whosoever retained any portion of his statement, he retained it, and whosoever forgot any part of it, he forgot it.’►[Bukhari as-Sahih. b. of bidal khalq (1:453#3020).]
Similarly, it is attributed to Abu Zayd Ansari and Abu Said Khudri(RA).
فحدثنا (و اخبر فيها) بما كان و بما هو كائن الى يوم
القيامة فاعلمنا احفظنا
Thus the Prophetﷺ said to us (and he told us) what had already happened and what was about to happen till the Day of Judgement. So the greatest scholar among us is the one who retained a greater part of it.’ ►[ Muslim as-Sahih (2:390#2892);Mishkat al-Masabeh (3:311#5936); Al-Maujam al-Kabeer, (17:28#46).]
LAWS OF MOTION
It is attributed to Hadrat Abu Zar(Radiyallahu Anh):
لقد تركنا محمدﷺ وما يحرك طائر جناحيه في السماء الا اذكر لنا منه علما
And when the Messenger of Allahﷺ parted from us, he had not left without telling us that a bird in the sky moves his wings (how he moves them): he had even told us about it.”►[Musnad Ahmad (5:153); Tabqat al-Kubra (2:354)
In this tradition, the law of motion has been described.
CARS AND BIKES
It is attributed to Hadrat Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As that the Prophet (ﷺ) said:
سيكون فى آخر هذه الامة رجال يركبون على المياثر بدل
السروج العظام
In the very near future, during the last period of my Ummah, people will travel by other forms of transport (that is motor cars) than animals of flesh and bone.[Dr. Muhammad Sulaiman Faraj states it in al-Wusool Ha Muhabbat ir-Rasool. He refers it to .Mustadrik lil-Hakim]
Abdullaah ibn Amr ibn al-’Aas (Radiyallahu Anhu) reported that Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) has said that: “In the last ages of my nation there will be men who ride on means that resemble saddles (’Mayasir’). They will alight at the doors of the mosques.“ ►{Narrated by Hakim in Al-Mustadrak Hadith #8346, Ibn Hibban}This tradition clearly indicates the progress achieved through mechanical technology.
At an earlier time, camels, mares and horses were used as means of transport. No one could have imagined mechanical vehicles eg. motorcycles, motor cars, etc. Also in earlier days, people were not used to riding camels or horses to go praying at mosques. As villages were very small, people used to walk to mosques. The Holy Prophet(peace be upon him) said that people will travel on something having comfortable big seats. i.e. they won’t be riding on beasts and people would alight from them on the doors of mosques.
It is a prophecy which we witness every day when we see people in cars and bikes gather in front of the mosques…SubhanAllah!
DISTANCES WILL SHRINK
Hadrat Abu Musa Ashari(Radiyallahu Anhu) has reported the Prophetﷺ’s statement about modern scientific progress, particularly with reference to the modern concepts of space and time.
لا تقوم الساعة حتى يتقارب الزمان
The Day of Judgement shall not occur until the distances of the earth shrink and come impossibly closer to each other.►[Majma uz Zawaid (7:279)]
