Presentation of deeds of the Ummah to Holy Prophetﷺ

by Minhaj

Ahadith inform us that ordinary people will be aware after their deaths of many of the things that happen to their relatives and friends. Imam Suyuti (RA) authored a book called Sharh as-Sudur related to the states of the deceased in the grave and therein is a chapter entitled, “Presentation of the deeds of the living to the deceased”  and he recorded many Prophetic traditions in support of this belief. It seems that the degree of awareness depends on the spiritual level of the person: the more spiritually developed the person, the more aware he will be.
Almighty Allah mentions in the Holy Quran regarding the martyrs that they are informed about their successors in the world who are yet to join them and they feel glad after being informed about them:فَرِحِیۡنَ بِمَاۤ  اٰتٰہُمُ اللّٰہُ مِنۡ فَضۡلِہٖ ۙ وَ یَسۡتَبۡشِرُوۡنَ بِالَّذِیۡنَ لَمۡ یَلۡحَقُوۡا بِہِمۡ مِّنۡ خَلۡفِہِمۡ ۙ اَلَّا خَوۡفٌ عَلَیۡہِمۡ وَ لَا ہُمۡ یَحۡزَنُوۡنَ ﴿۱۷۰
They rejoice in these (blessings of eternal life) that Allah has conferred on them of His bounty, and they also feel pleased (on finding) their successors (on the path of faith and obedience) who have not (yet) joined them, for they shall also have neither any fear nor any grief. ►(Surah Āl-i-‘Imrān, 3 : 170)

With regards to the exalted station of Prophet ﷺ as a witness for the Ummah, Quran and Hadith make it clear that heﷺ  remains aware of the happenings in the lives of every single member of his community even after passing away from this world.
Its mentioned in a verse:
اِنَّاۤ  اَرۡسَلۡنَاۤ  اِلَیۡکُمۡ  رَسُوۡلًا ۬ۙ شَاہِدًا عَلَیۡکُمۡ کَمَاۤ  اَرۡسَلۡنَاۤ  اِلٰی فِرۡعَوۡنَ رَسُوۡلًا ﴿ؕ۱۵﴾
Surely, We have sent towards you a Messenger (blessings and peace be upon him) who bears witness to you (seeing thoroughly your states of being) as We sent a Messenger towards Pharaoh.►(Surah al-Muzzammil, 73 : 15)

The following traditions of the Holy Prophet ﷺ substantiate this:
The Prophetﷺ said: (Hayâtî khayrun lakum tuhdithûna wa yuh.dathu lakum wa-wafâtî khayrun lakum tu`rad.u a`mâlukum `alayya famâ ra’aytu min khayrin hamidtu Allâha wa-mâ ra’aytu min sharrin istaghfartu Allâha lakum.)   “My life is an immense good for you: you bring up new matters and new matters are brought up for you. My death, also, is an immense good for you: your actions will be shown to me; if I see goodness I shall praise Allâh and if I see evil I shall ask forgiveness of Him for you.”►[Narrated from Ibn Mas`ûd by al-Bazzâr in his Musnad (5:308-309 §1925) with a sound chain of trustworthy narrators as stated by:[al-Suyûti in Manâhil al-S.afâ (p. 31 §8) and al-Khasâis. al-Kubrâ (2:281),al-Zarqânî in Sharh. al-Muwatta’ (1:97) and his commentary on al-Qast.allânî’s Mawâhib al-Lâduniyya]
Hadrat Bakr bin Abdullah (RA) also reported that the Holy Prophet ﷺ said: “My life is great good for you in whom you talk (to me) and you are responded. And when I will die my demise will be a great good for you. Your deeds will be presented to me, if I see goodness, I will praise Allah, and if I see wrongs, I will ask Allah’s forgiveness for you.”►[Ibn Sa’d in al-Tabaqat al-Kubra(2:194);al-Haythami in Majma al-Zawahid(9:24) and its men are those of sound hadith]

At another place, Anas bin Malik (RA) narrates that the Prophet ﷺ said: “My life is a great good for you “, and he ( the Prophet) said it three times .“My demise is a great good for you , and he (the Prophetﷺ) said it three times. Then the people kept silent and ‘Umar bin Khattab(RA) asked, “May my Parents be sacrificed for you! How would it be?” He ( the Prophetﷺ) said, “My life is great good for you because I get Heavenly revelation and inform you what is allowed and what is disallowed for you .And my demise is good for you because your deeds are presented to me every Thursday. If they are good, I say, “Praise be to Allah.” If they are bad, I seek forgiveness for you.”►[Yusuf An-Nabhani, Hujjatulahi alal-alamin,P.713]
Since the deeds of the believers are presented to the Holy Prophet ﷺ , if we send Salat and Salam upon the Prophetﷺ  this constitutes a very good deed and a pious act. It is presented to the Holy Prophet ﷺ  who praises Allah in his happiness.
