A study of traditions of Prophet Muhammadﷺ demonstrates that he warned us of the rise of religious extremism in this age in astonishing detail.1400 years ago, he prophesied that a time would come when the true spiritual essence of religion would be lost and religion, for the most part, would be reduced to a ritualistic compulsion. He foretold that the clergy would be corrupt and a source of strife during these times. He went on to describe terrorist groups such as ISIS that would try to hijack the Islamic faith. At this time of dissension, he said that there would appear a group of young people who would be foolish and immature in thought. They would speak beautiful words but commit the most heinous of deeds. They would call people to the Quran but would have nothing to do with its reality. The Prophetﷺ then went on to describe these people as the worst of creation.

Answer :
Though it must be surprising for ordinary people, the Prophetﷺ foretold that the terrorists would give the name ‘ISIS’ to their regime: al-Dawla which literally translates into ‘the (Islamic) state’.
It is related on the authority of Hadrat Ali Ibn Abi Talib(RA):
When you see the black flags, remain where you are and do not move your hands or your feet[i.e. stay put and do not initiate fighting]. Thereafter shall appear a feeble folk to whom no concern is given. Their hearts will be (very hard) like fragments of iron. They would(claim to) be the representatives of the (Islamic) state (Ashab al-Dawla). They will honor neither a covenant nor an agreement. They will (apparently) invite to the truth even though they are not truthful people. Their names will be agnomens[i.e. Abu so-and-so], and their ascriptions will be to villages. Their hair will be long like that of women.[They shall remain so] till they differ among themselves, and then Allah will bring forth the truth from whomever He wills. ►[Narrated by Nuaym Ibn Hammad in Kitab al-Fitan, 1:210, Hadith #573]

The signs of ISIS killers are so apparent in the Islamic literature that no one, after reading their marks in the following lines, may fail to know their identity.
Hadrat Ali bin Abi Talib described the detailed description of ISIS Kharijites which Hafiz Abu Abdullah Nuaym ibn al-Hammad(d. 288 AH) narrated in his book al-Fitan(1:210 $573).Imam al-Suyuti and al-Hindi also transmitted this narration which describes:
1. They (ISIS Kharijites) would have black flags as their group identity.
2. Their hearts would be very hard and violent like fragments of iron.
3. Their appearance would be from the desert of Iraq and its surrounding regions.
4. Their battle cry would be: ‘Kill! Kill!’
5. Bloodshed, killing, looting, pilfering wealth, and rape are lawful in their estimation.
6. Their strife will envelop Iraq and encircle Syria.
7. This strife will strike the whole Arabian Peninsula.
8. Syrians will migrate to other countries.
9. This movement will be followed by ignoble fugitives, rebels, deserters, and absconders from Arabs and non-Arabs and from distant regions and remote parts of the world.
10. First, they would provoke strife. Second, they would provoke misguidance. Third, they would provoke disbelief.

Answer:
Islamic literature refers to the destruction caused by the ISIS extremists. The prediction in Nuaym ibn Hammad’s Kitab al-Fitan is so accurate and we can witness the widespread devastation they perpetrated in Iraq and Syria.
Al-Hakam b. Abi al-Yaman al-Himsi said:A time shall soon come when Iraq will be pulverized [stricken by war] and Syria will be divided(by civil war) and Egypt will crumble[because of political turmoil].►[ Narrated by Nuaym Ibn al-Hammad in Kitab al-Fitan,1:213 Hadith #585]
Hadrat Abu Hurayra(RA) said, “The fourth strife will be a blind and dark strife that engulfs [people] like crashing waves of the sea – there will be no house belonging to an Arab or a non-Arab except that it will be filled with humiliation and fear. It will encircle Syria, envelop Iraq, and strike the [Arabian] Peninsula with its hands and feet. The Ummah will be stricken by war because of it. During that period, tribulation(and troubles) will intensify to the point that good is considered evil and evil is considered good.No one will be able to request reprieve, and nowhere do they mend it[address the strife] except that it appears in another area. During that time, a man will enter the morning as a believer and enter the evening as a disbeliever.No one will be saved during that time except one who supplicates[Allah] as a drowning person calls out[for help] in the sea.” [Nuaym Ibn Hammad, Kitab al-Fitan, 1:238 Hadith #676]

The last group of terrorists will appear in the time of the Antichrist. The Messengerﷺ said : “They shall continue to appear until the last of them appears with the Antichrist[al-Dajjal].”►[Ahmed b. Hanbal in al-Musnad,4:421 Hadith #19798;al-Hakim in al-Mustadrak,2:160 Hadith #2647]
Cᴏɴᴄʟᴜsɪᴏɴ:
Since its emergence ISIS has demonstrated an unflinching determination to kill both Muslims and Non-Muslims ruthlessly. Its members have slaughtered even women whom the Prophetﷺ gave protection in the course of war. Islam lays emphasis on human rights, love, justice and tolerance. But these terrorists are acting in complete defiance of Islamic injunctions where the sanctity of human life is concerned.
